Last week, the Russellville High School Panthers baseball team announced that they would have to cancel their 2024 season after only playing their season opener against Edmonson County where they lost 0-13. The program announced that it was struggling to field a team because of insufficient player numbers, and the current situation makes a full season impossible to get through with the amount of players the team had. A decision that many are disappointed with, however, the program seeks to rebuild and grow a foundation for the future and build continuity.

Speaking with the Panthers Athletic Director and Softball head coach Ryan Davenport, he shared what their goals are for the program and what he felt about the situation, “As the athletic director of Russellville and a former RHS baseball player, it was very hard for me to see our 2024 baseball season canceled. Instead of looking for excuses, we’re looking for solutions to fix this. There is no quick fix to the problem, but with a collaborative effort from the community, parents, and school, I have no doubt that we can bring baseball back to Russellville.” Talking about the goals for the program, Davenport followed up with, “Our short-term goal is to field a high school team next season, and our long term goal is to never again have a Russellville High School baseball season canceled.”
