Jailer Bill Jenkins told members of fiscal court Tuesday that he is giving residents of Auburn another chance to use the recycling receptacle. He told the magistrates he knows how important the receptacle is to Auburn’s citizens but wishes those who use it improperly would not ruin it for others.

Auburn’s receptacle was taken away last month due to misuse by people throwing away dirty diapers, dry wall and old meat.

Auburn Mayor Dewey Roche is asking the Auburn citizens to abide by the rules that govern a recycling receptacle including only putting in paper, plastic, glass or aluminum.

This is the last chance Auburn will have to keep the receptacle that is to be placed behind the ambulance service on Main Street, said Jenkins – not because he wants to take it away but because his crew does not have the time to clean out the mess if people leave garbage.

One of the last things to be put into the receptacle before it was taken away was three bags of old freezer meat that rotted, drew maggots and smelled terrible.

Jenkins said he and Mayor Roche are working together trying to educate people on the proper use of the receptacle.

"I have had a lot of calls from people who would like to see the receptacle put back, some older who say they cannot get to Russellville to recycle,” said Jenkins.

Magistrate Loyd Houchens suggested putting surveillance cameras around the receptacle to catch the people who are abusing it.

The only commodities that are accepted into the recycling receptacles are glass, plastic, aluminum (cans) and paper.

If you have a question on what can go into the receptacles please call 726-3696 and ask to speak to Bill Jenkins.
