Logan County Clerk Scottie Harper held a drawing for positions last week for several of the non-partisan races – including Russellville city council.
In that race, which has 11 contestants for six council positions, Sandra F. Kinser drew the top ballot position. Coincidentally, Kinser was also the top vote-getter in May’s primary. Others running for city council will appear in the following order: Neil Kerr, Pat Walpole Bell, Ashley Bland, Lanny McPherson, Bill Decker, S. Darlene Gooch, Jack J. Whipple, Jimmy Davenport, Marvinia Benton Neblett and Joe Laird.
Former Russellville mayor Shirlee Yassney was supposed to be the 12th candidate, but dropped out of the race following the primary.
In the mayor’s race, sitting council member Doug Nash will have the top ballot spot, while his only opposition, ex-council member Mark Stratton, will be second.
Two other city council races will be contested. There are nine people running in the city of Auburn. They are (in the order they will appear on the ballot) Michael A. Hughes, Bobby Price, Jessie W. Duer, Rex Evans, Tim Williams, Norma Kutzman, Jim E. Kutzman Jr., Steve Montgomery and Gayle Gregory.
Only seven will run for Adairville city council. They are (in order) William G. Steen, Danny Finch, Becky Tinch, Art Violette, Tony Nichols, Nannette Starks King and Donna Blake.
Other contested nonpartisan positions include Auburn school board with Ann H. Scott and Tim Hall and Lewisburg mayor with Tina Callahan-Dye and Lucian Hunt, Jr.
Lewisburg will also vote for its city council, but only six people signed up to run, so it will not be contested. Those six are Craig Green, Joyce T. Richardson, Jeff Laster, Melanie Palmgren, Donnie Smith and Scott Sweetsir.
Candidates can still file to run as a write-in in any of the local election and have until Oct. 22 to do so.
Other dates to remember include Oct. 5 – which is the last day to register to vote – and Oct. 26 – the last day to mail in an absentee ballot.
