Adairville, Auburn and Lewisburg will be voting on their six-person city councils in November, but as of Monday afternoon, none of them had six people signed up to run.
Adairville and Auburn each had four people registered. In Adairville those included William G. Steen, Danny Finch, Rebecca “Becky” Tinch and Nannette Starks King. In Auburn there is Rex Evans, Gayle Gregory, Steve Montgomery and Bobby Price.
In Lewisburg, only one person has registered to run for city council – Donnie Smith.
The north Logan County city will also be electing its mayor this year and that position will be contested. Tina Callahan-Dye and Lucian Hunt have both filed to run for that position.
Candidates have until 4 p.m. today to file in the Logan County Clerk’s Office in Russellville.
On Thursday, a drawing will be held in the clerk’s office for positions on the November ballot. This will also include the ballot positions for the Russellville city council, although candidates can no longer file for that race.
There was a May primary for the Russellville city council, which whittled the field down to 12 candidates. They were Sandra Kinser, Jimmy Davenport, Lanny McPherson, Jack Whipple, Neil Kerr, Darlene Gooch, Pat Bell, Shirlee Yassney, Bill Decker, Ashley Bland, Marvinia Neblett and Joe Laird.
After the primary, however, Yassney – a former mayor of Russellville – announced she would drop out of the race, leaving just 11 candidates running for the six spots on the council.
Candidates can still file to run as a write-in in any of the local elections and have until Oct. 22 to do so.
