Seventy high school sophomores-to-be from around the Commonwealth, including one from Logan County High School participated in the annual Gear UP Summer Academy June 13-July 2 at Eastern Kentucky University.

The Logan County High student was Taylor Rittenberry.

During their time on the Richmond campus, the students took three college-level courses - Math, Science and Careers - and one for college credit - English 200.

"Our students each possess individual talents and strengths," said Laura Brasie, assistant director for the Academy. "We create and nurture an intense melting pot of backgrounds, personalities and cultures."

The students also enjoyed special programming, recreation opportunities, tours, a talent show, entertainment, a dance, and other activities.
