The Russellville High School girls’ basketball game that was postponed due to the weather on Monday has been rescheduled for tonight. The Lady Panthers take on Warren Central at approximately 7:30 p.m. The girls’ junior varsity team will play the first half of a doubleheader at 6 p.m.
Also, the Lady Panthers’ game scheduled for next week against John Hardin has also been moved. It will be played December 30th at 9 a.m. as part of the First Southern National Bank/Roy’s BBQ Classic.
The Lady Panthers have already outdone themselves in regards to their District 13 record.
After losing all of their district games last season, the Lady Panthers are 1-1 heading into the Christmas break.
When the Russellville girls win their next game they will have already equaled their overall win total from a year ago.
And that could very well happen tonight against Warren Central.
The Lady Dragons are 1-2 and have already lost to the same Logan County squad that Russellville beat earlier this season.
It helps that Russellville is essentially playing the same squad that it had a year ago.
The Lady Panthers have a great backcourt combo in Nakia Daniel and Amber Sydnor.
Senior Reagan Leavell is also a nice versatile player that can play both in the post and on the wing for the Lady Panthers.
The Logan County girls’ team – despite laying an egg against the Lady Panthers – is off to a nice start to the season.
The Lady Cougars are 2-2 with wins over Warren Central and Caverna. Unfortunately, both losses came against district opponents.
That could change tonight in Elkton as Logan County takes on Todd County Central.
Last year these teams played three times – and they were all hard-fought battles. Logan County went 0-3 in the games, but a win tonight would go a long way toward erasing the memory of those tough defeats.
The Lady Rebels are 3-1 so far with wins against Russellville, Glasgow and Crittenden County. Their lone loss was against Greenwood.
The game will be the second of a boy-girl doubleheader. The Logan County boys play Todd Central at 6 p.m.
The Cougars are still looking for their first win of the season, but that has as much to do with the tough schedule they have played.
Logan County has district losses to Franklin-Simpson and Russellville – two of the top teams in the Fourth Region – and a pair of tough road losses to Hancock County and Caverna.
Tonight should be a good opportunity for the Cougars to get into the win column.
Todd Central won its opener against Fort Campbell, but then lost three in a row against Bowling Green, Glasgow and Russellville. The Rebels are also playing their second game in as many nights after playing yesterday at Muhlenberg South.
The Russellville boys’ team has been the most successful of the four local teams so far, going 4-0 in the early portion of the schedule.
The Panthers will be hard-pressed to get through this weekend’s tournament at McCreary Central without taking a loss, though.
Russellville will be playing some top-notch competition and could conceivably take more than one loss.
All four teams will be playing in town for the First Southern National Bank/Roy’s BBQ Classic, which begins Dec. 29 and runs through New Year’s Eve.
