Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky hosted their annual Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, May 19h, 2010 at Logan County Extension Building in Russellville. During the morning’s event, Leadership students from Russellville City Schools welcomed guests and presented awards to the Volunteer and Teacher of the Year recipients. Rachel Hance from the Extension Office was awarded the Logan County JA Volunteer of the Year award and Diane Pardue of Auburn Elementary was presented with the Logan County JA Teacher of the Year award.

In addition to these awards, Junior Achievement presented certificates to the 2009-2010 Major Investors’ companies and organizations that made financial contributions to provide JA curriculum to area students. Three companies that were honored were: BB&T, Electric Plant Board, Emerson Electric, Logan Aluminum, Logan Memorial Hospital, Logan Telephone Cooperative and US Bank. Without the support of local businesses and industries, Junior Achievement programs would not be made available, free of charge, to local schools.

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest and fastest-growing nonprofit economic education organization. JA’s hands-on, experiential programs teach the key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy to young people all over the world. During the 2009-2010 school year, JA of South Central Kentucky will have provided over 550 programs to more than 13,000 students a nine county area. Specifically in Logan County, JA provided 44 programs, reaching more than 1,010 students. For more information about Junior Achievement, visit www.jaforkids.com.
