Artie Mae Johnson Hankins, 94, of Morgantown, died march 6, 2010 at the Taylor Regional Hospital.

She was born in Butler County July 29, 1915, a daughter of the late Norwood and Maggie Johnson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hankins was preceded in death by her husband Sam Hankins; her brothers, Clay Johnson and Clifford Johnson; her sisters, Ercie Lee, Pearl McCoy, Thelma Taylor and Bessie Wells, and her grandsons, Duron Belcher and Gregory Hankins.

Mrs. Hankins taught school 44 years. She was a member of Big Muddy Baptist Church and the Butler County Retired Teachers Association. For several years, she and long-time friend Exie Hawes documented happenings of the Dunbar community for the local newspaper.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 11 at Jones Funeral Home with Brother Frank Dorris officiating. Burial followed in the Dan Johnson Cemetery.

She is survived by her sons, Sammy Hankins and wife Recie and Craig Hankins and wife Becky, all of Morgantown; her daughters, Marquita Hamilton and husband Dickie of Campbellsville and Janice Wiedemer and husband Don of Fairview, Texas; her grandchildren, Stacy Shepherd, Denise Hantak, Scott Belcher, John Wiedemer, Michael Wiedemer, Leslie Marlow, Bob Wiedemer, Russell Hankins, Robert Hankins and Shira Hankins; her step-grandchildren, Jeffery Hamilton and Mark Hamilton; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Jesse Johnson of Louisville and James Daniel Johnson of Lewisburg; her sister, Esther Gregory of Lewisburg, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
