Hughes and the former Camilla Newman were married by the Rev. J.J. Bowman on January 28, 1950, in Auburn.
They have six children, Ray (Delain) Hughes, Sarah (Dean) Gipson, Charlie (Teresa) Hughes, Joyce (Tim) Taylor, Rebecca (Paul) Collins, Danny (Staci) Hughes, all of Auburn. They also have ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
