Hello Adairville and all who read these humble writings.

Wilford Arnold, Adairville's former mayor died last Saturday at a Bowling Green Hospital. His funeral was this past Wednesday. I will miss his quick wit and contagious laugh. When we talked it was only a matter of minutes till we would both be laughing and grinning from ear to ear. Wilford was a unique gentleman that made his mark on Adairville and will long be remembered.

I have received a number of calls, e-mails and face to face comments about my ten predictions for 2010.

It looks like my readings of the "wooly worms" where they had short hair, then long and then short again is coming true. My interpretation was that we would have warmer than usual, then colder than usual and then warmer than usual again. My prediction of at least three snows and a rough winter seems close to being a reality.

I do not know if many people in the county know that an unusual and unseasonable January tornado came up Highway 431 from Springfield and when it approached Adairville it circled to the east and went up into the sky. All the damage was on the Tennessee side of the line. It was a very freak happening.

The Adairville Chamber of Commerce has sponsored a very successful Easter Egg hunt and parade for the past two years. The hunt may be the largest in Western Kentucky and the parade is one of only two in the state. (Louisville is the other.) Debbie Ramsey has chaired the event the last two years and has done a tremendous job. She now feels that it is time to have someone else to step into the position as chair. At the last meeting of the chamber it was decided that I would advertise for a new chair. We need someone to take over the task. If you or someone you know would volunteer to head up this event please contact me.

Debbie Ramsey has also decided to step down as chair of the town square park. The chamber needs a volunteer to take that project on as well. The park has looked beautiful the last several years with Debbie's hard work. There are four corners and flowers are planted each spring and then need weeding and watering till fall. We have had four volunteers that have each take care of one corner. If we have no volunteer to take over the task as coordinator of this activity we will no longer be able to plant the flowers. If you or someone you know would take on this task please contact me at the chamber or call my cell phone 615-389-5495.

Donna Blake, president of the local historical society, called to tell me she had a quick response to my appeal for the albums of the Gospeltones. Dean Allen is the kind individual. She now has all three that will be part of the Adairville/South Logan Museum. Somehow I left off Mrs. Willis Allen, Nora Faye when I listed the singers in the Gospeltones group. She was an important part of the group as well. It is good to know that the folks who made up the singing group can still belt out wonderful songs.

Brent Holman is chair of the annual car, truck, tractor and motorcycle show this year. It is scheduled for Saturday, May 8 and is expected to be bigger and better than ever. The 5 K Run will be the same day. Amy Williams is the chair of this event. The run has become a huge event and Amy does a tremendous job.

Patty Costello and Debbie Ramsey are again co-chairs for the annual Strawberry Festival. They make a great team and do a wonderful job. They need volunteers and welcome your contacting them.

Good news. We have a new business opening on the square. Charlie Ellis who owns the building that has just been vacated by Coots Nursery has a new tenant. Rose Campbell will be opening a sports and entertainment center called the "Hide A Way." There will be games, billiards, hot dogs, soft drinks and a good atmosphere for kids of all ages. The new business is scheduled to open on April 1.

The Red River Fish & Game Club's Annual Spring Fund Raiser - Steak Supper is set for Saturday, March 6. (The first Saturday of the month.) This is always one of the biggest events of the year in Adairville. This is election year so the crowd is expected to be larger than ever. The steak dinner will also include ice tea and dessert. The price is $12.50. There will be live music, prizes, good food, a little auction and lots of fun. The proceeds will go into improving the grounds. There will be plenty of room this year as we now have the large second room. Contact any club officer or me for tickets to this fun event.

The Pat On The Back Award: this week goes to Bob and Pam Nicodemus for doing the street clean up of the big snow this past week. Bob brought out one of his tractors and pushed snow for several days making it a much safer business area and town. Walter Ray Clinard was some where in the background on this. A big thank you for your help during our big snow!

With A Smile : Back 15 years ago I had a large pet boarding and grooming business in Nashville. Actually my staff took care of the business as I was working in Washington, D.C. and was gallivanting around the world. I did come home as much as possible and was frequently at the business on the weekend. One of the all-time most interesting customers I had was a French lady who boarded her three large poodles when she went out of town. When she brought her dogs she walked each one individually from her car to the kennel. When I say walked - the dog stood on its back legs and the French lady held one of the dogs paws and actually walked each dog to the kennel standing on its back legs. It was a funny site to see. It was always repeated when she picked up the dogs.

One time the lady left the dogs and did not return to pick them up. After a couple of weeks I got concerned .

The phone number she left was not working. I called the local police to see if they might know where she lived. As soon as I said the French lady the policeman responded "who walks her dogs standing up?" They knew where she lived so I went to find her. I arrived at her home and a real estate person was holding open house. So I took the tour. In the bed room was a huge closet with all of the lady's fancy dresses. She had the most colorful "can can" dresses you could ever imagine. Seems she had been a dancer in Paris, France. When the other lookers left the open house I could hear the lady's voice saying don't leave and wait a minute. She was actually hiding in the big dog house just outside the kitchen door. She climbed out and told me she had been told by the real estate man to disappear during the showing so she hid in the dog house. What a site to see the woman crawling out of the dog house! A sight I shall never forget.

Till next time. Good night Cathy Scarbrough and Mrs. Calabash where ever you are.
