As of Monday afternoon, 11 citizens have filed to run for the six-seat council.
The most recent candidates include Douglas Daech, local attorney Neil Kerr and Main Street Russellville director S. Darlene Gooch.
Those three join eight other candidates, who had already previously filed. Four incumbents have filed – Pat Bell, Jack Whipple, Jimmy Davenport and Lanny McPherson.
Longtime councilman Russell Jones has said he will not seek reelection and current councilman Doug Nash is running for mayor against former councilman Mark Stratton.
Those that had already filed to get on the council for the first time include Ashley Bland, Bill Decker, Shirlee Yassney and Joe Laird.
Robert Atchley of Auburn registered on Monday to run for District 5 Magistrate as a Democrat. He will be running against incumbent Jo Orange, who has filed as a Republican.
Other recent filings in the county include Doris Gregory for District 3 Constable and Dwight “Butch” Inman for District 4 Constable.
All contested races within a party will be decided in the May primary election. The general election will take place in November.
The deadline for joining most races is today at 4 p.m. at the Logan County Clerk’s office.
Those wishing to file for the Auburn, Adairville or Lewisburg city councils have until August to register.
• State offices also have a filing deadline of today.
In the local state representative race, incumbent Martha Jane King officially put her name back in the race last week. King is currently serving in the second year of her first time on the Kentucky House of Representatives for District 16, which includes all of Logan and Todd counties.
She will likely be running against Republican Larry E. Noe of Russellville, who filed earlier this month.
