The city’s council discussed the purchase Tuesday, but no official decision was made concerning the truck.
According to Poole, the city’s current truck is 20 years old and when they get that old they are supposed to be taken out of service.
The age of the truck is really not the issue, says Poole.
Zick told this council Tuesday the truck is getting hard to start.
“This is the only ladder truck in Logan County and it is relied upon not only by the city but the county as well,” Zick said.
According to Poole a new truck would cost approximately $520,000. It is Poole’s hope the city would allow the purchase soon, because it can take up to a year for it to be built.
The city will be finished paying for another fire truck it purchased in October of this year. Poole said since the city is already used to making a payment then they wouldn’t necessarily miss that money by continuing on with a payment for a new ladder truck.
A top of the line ladder truck costs approximately $750,000, but Poole has obtained a lower quote which he is hoping may help the cause.
Mayor Zick said he would like to see if there are any grants available to help in the purchase but said something is going to have to be done to ensure the safety of the community.
