On December 8th, Logan County 4-H hosted the Mammoth Cave Area 4-H Achievement Banquet. Every year 4-H has a banquet and award ceremony to showcase the 4-H members’ achievements. In previous years, it has been held in Cave City, but this year, due to the new Logan County Extension Office being a large building, the banquet was held here. Many people attended from 10 different counties. The Logan County 4-H Extension Agent is Gary Michael Templeman. He has been the Extension Agent for several years now and is working very hard to get 4-H back to the size and importance it used to be. Here were several youth from Logan County who were recognized at the banquet, here is who they are and why they were recognized: Zach McElfreash, for getting 1st place at the area level and 3rd place at the state level with his craft demonstration "I Like Duck Tape"; Jarrett Hamilton, for getting 1st place in the 9-year-old division at the area level, and placed in his division at the state level, with his speech "Discovering Your Talent;" Sarah Edger, for getting 1st place at the area level and placing at the state level with her cooking demonstration "Tasty Dish." Emily Baker received the Bronze Award, an award given to teens age 14 and above for their participation in 4-H projects, programs, activities, events, and leadership and citizenship experiences. Katie Tyson received the Bronze Award also, along with the Outstanding Youth Leadership Award, which is given to two teens in the Mammoth Cave Area who have shown exceptional leadership ability. She was recognized for winning champion over all in the area horticulture judging contest and 6th in the state contest, and class champion and reserve champion over all for her photo in the state fair. The adult leaders and volunteers were also recognized for all the work they do, it would not be possible to have 4-H without them. 4-H always welcomes new youth members and adult leaders. If you would like to join, become a volunteer, or have any questions, please call the Logan County Extension Office at: (270) 726-6323.
