The Logan County High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams ended their holiday tournaments with losses last week – but will be looking to have even more success in the annual First Southern National Bank/Roy’s BBQ Classic this week.

Both Russellville teams are also participating in the tournament, which brings 14 teams in from out of town.

Play began in the tournament Monday and continues through Wednesday, with the championship games taking place at 3 p.m.

This year, Logan County High School with be the site for all the boys’ action, while the girls’ teams will play at RHS’s Jim Young Gymnasium.

There will be four games at each venue today and Wednesday as every team is guaranteed to play three games.

The Russellville boys will be looking to defend their tournament title as they won it all for the first time ever last season.

The Logan County boys will be looking to bring their record back up to .500 during the Classic. The Cougars are currently 5-6.

Last week, after finding success in the early part of their first holiday tournaments, the Cougars and Lady Cougars were matched up with tough opponents on their final day of competition before Christmas.

The Logan County boys drew Beth Haven in the fifth-place game of the North American Stainless Classic at Carroll County.

Beth Haven entered the game with a 6-2 record and exited with another win after beating the Cougars 74-56.

Logan County opened the tournament with a 60-51 loss to eventual runner-up Shawe Memorial. But the Cougars then rebounded to knock off host Carroll County 75-67 in the consolation round.

The Lady Cougars went 2-2 at the Ballard Memorial Lady Bomber Shootout. After going 2-1 through their first three games, LCHS was matched up with defending First Region champion Marshall County in the final game. Logan County lost 80-47 to the Lady Marshalls, making their record 7-3.

Entering Monday’s action, LCHS was tied for the most overall wins in the Fourth Region.

The Russellville boys finished play in the Paducah Tilghman tournament early last week. The Panthers were runners-up to the host Blue Tornado.

The Lady Panthers did not play in a tournament last week, but did get their third win of the season, knocking off University Heights.
