The 2010 4-H/FFA Logan County Steer Show is set to kick off with its initial weigh-in on December 12, 2009. The weigh-in will be 8-10 AM at the Russellville Livestock Market. All steers will be processed (vaccinated, dewormed and implanted), tagged and weighed in for the show. The maximum steer weight is 950 lbs at the weigh-in. The steer show has been moved from July to June 1, 2010. This means that steers will have roughly 28 days fewer on feed, so exhibitors need to consider selecting larger (heavier) calves to ensure enough finish for the show.

One thing that is new this year is that exhibitors have the option to weigh-in three steers in December and then choose the two they would like to show at the preliminary show and weigh-in April or May. Exhibitors will be allowed to send their 3rd steer to Tyson if they so choose.

I would also like to mention that the new steer show chairman is Greg Whitson. If you have any questions pertaining to the steer show give Greg, me or any of the committee members a call.

We would like to encourage anyone who will be nine as of January 1st (4-H age) through FFA age who has a beef interest to participate.

We look forward to seeing you on the 12th of December and to another great year!
