Each year, our freshmen members are inducted and then later may become qualified to receive the Greenhand Degree. The Greenhand Degree is made of Bonze and is worn on the front right hand side of the FFA Jacket. It symbolizes growth, but also indicates that higher achievements are ahead as they near the coveted gold of the FFA American Degree. The Greenhand pin is made of bronze also because of it’s hardness and endurance. Bronze has been used for ages by those who sought a better substitute for crude stone instruments. To be eligible to receive the Greenhand FFA Degree from a chapter a member must meet the following qualifications:

• Be enrolled in an agricultural education class and have satisfactory plans for a supervised agricultural experience program (SAE);

• Learn and explain the FFA Creed, motto, salute and FFA mission statement;

• Describe and explain the meaning of the FFA emblem and colors;

• Demonstrate a a knowledge of the FFA Code of Ethics and the proper use of the FFA Jacket;

• Deomstrate a knowledge of the history of the organization, the chapter constitution and bylaws and the chapter Program of Activities (POA);

• Personally own or have access to the Official FFA Manual and the FFA Student Handbook; and

• Submit written application for the Greenhand FFA Degree.

There were a total of 56 members that received the Greenhand Degree. Our state secretary, Kaitlin Whittle, came to the ceremony to shake the members’ hands and celebrate their accomplishment with them. Kaitlin Whittle talked to the members during the meeting to give them encouragement and inspiration to keep on working and striving to be the best because that’s what they are.
