On Tuesday, Logan County School Superintendent Marshall Kemp confirmed that Nelson was not at the school but would not comment further on the situation and referred all questions to the school board’s attorney, Mike Owsley.
“It is true that Mr. Nelson is not at the school at the present time,” Owsley said on Wednesday, “and we have an acting principal.”
Kemp said that associate superintendent Janet Hurt was filling in as acting principal.
Owsley declined to offer any further explanation for Nelson’s absence, saying that it was a personnel matter.
It would not be fair for Mr. Nelson or the school district to say anything else, Owsley said.
Nelson has served as principal at Lewisburg since July 2004.
