When will it end?

On Jan. 24, 1992 my family was hit by a drunk driver.

Actually we were sitting still and he rear-ended us doing 65-75 mph.

Our car caught on fire. We were seriously injured and my grandson was killed.

The driver pled guilty to first degree murder and several other serious charges and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He got out of jail after only 10 years of his sentence.

On Sept. 18th of this year, he was stopped at a checkpoint, was charged with drinking and taken to jail again.

In the court room, when he faced the judge he was about to get slapped on the wrist and let go until my family made the county attorney aware of what he had done and now his case has been rescheduled to sometime in December.

When will this type of crime be taken seriously by judges, prosecutors and legislators? How many more have to suffer because of this one man and others who drink and drive?

It was commented by the judge in 1993 that the drunk drivers have suffered enough, well what about the victims? What about the little boy that was killed and the mother and father that lost a baby they loved dearly? What about the brother who grew up without a sibling?

And a judge says that the drunk driver suffers too much because of what they go through. Excuse me!

Repeat offenders can kill again. It could be you the next time or your husband or your wife or your child of parents or grandparents.

How long with the justice system and our law makers fail to protect us?

Our police officers do their jobs. They are not the ones failing us. So when will it end?
