A Logan County minister is behind bars today after a bizarre turn of events over the weekend.

Jody Lusk, who was the pastor at Auburn Church of Christ, faked his disappearance Friday at Briggs Lake and then ran off with a 13-year-old girl.

Lusk returned the girl to her home on Saturday afternoon and then turned himself in early Sunday to Logan County Sheriff’s Department detective Robbie Matthews.

Lusk is charged with second degree rape, which carries a possible prison term of five to 10 years. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Logan Circuit Court on Thursday.

Our prayers should be with both families, as they are both victims to this sad situation.

To All: As a former member of the congreation where Lusk ministered, I have to see some irony in all of this. This is a horrible act and my heart goes out to all innocent family members involved who have been hurt by this man's actions. But this particular branch of the Church of Christ dedicates most of their lessons to telling why other Christians are not properly serving the Lord. They spew hate and condemnation most all the time. Now, I am fully aware that some, if not most, individual members truly feel differently than the men who most often end up in leadership positions and I am not out to condem ALL members for their beliefs. I also will say that I have to even respect even the "hardliners" opinion, but the people who most often are in the leadership roles are the ones who make judgment calls on who to put in as minister. These are the same men who continually pass judgment on other Christians for their approach to God or life's decisions. This is a prime example of how these mens' judgments are wrong! I hope the good people of this congreation and others like it will put their faith in Jesus instead of a judgmental bunch of narrow-minded mortal men who are, just like in Lusk's case, often wrong in their assessment of people!!

I am a mother of a 13-year-old daughter and I am around 13-year-old girls all the time . . . that is why I was particularly sickened by his released statement on WBKO.com. He makes references to the "affair with the young lady." Let's get our facts straight. She is a 13 year old child! It is child molestation - period! Not an affair. She isn't the "young lady" he refers to several times- she is a middle schooler!!!! How exactly does one have a consenual sexual experience with a child? He doesn't grasp what he has done- the permanent psycological damage to the girl. His statement is all about him - what he is suffering, etc.
