“What a welcoming way to get a jump start into the fall season,” said Jana Hanks of the Auburn Tourism Commission, “with the beautiful town of Auburn all adorned in it's autumn attire and people out and about on the streets enjoying one of the best events that Auburn Tourism Commission sponsors each year.”
“It gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside just seeing the townspeople, old and young, and those visiting and those that regularly attend this fun-filled weekend in Auburn coming back year after year to take part in this event,” Hanks said. “It is so nice to see families out enjoying all the festivities that are offered in our small town of Auburn. This event takes months of planning and to see it all come together and the streets filled with shoppers and vendors and those coming in to town for some of the most delicious food and fellowship around makes it all worthwhile.”
Many people look forward year after year to stopping by the Methodist Church grill next to US Bank for one of their famous pork chop sandwiches that are sure to satisfy an appetite.
It seems to be a routine of many each year at Auburn Autumn Days to get up early and begin the day with pancakes at the American Legion and then head up to the town square to get an early glimpse of the crafts and collectibles for sale and stop for lunch at your favorite vendor or better yet, sample them all and then for sure make plans as the day turns to evening to head over to Auburn School Cafeteria and sit down and enjoy a delicious fish dinner with all the trimmings and get in on the silent and live auction to follow. Auburn's Ken Robbins will serve as the auctioneer.
If you start to get tired, take advantage of the trackless train that will be on hand to take people from the city park to the town square. For a small fee, onlookers can sit back and relax and enjoy the ride.
The Auburn Autumn Days festivities begin Friday evening, September 12, as Family Fun Night will be held at Auburn City Park from 5 till 8 p.m. There will be games for children as well as teenagers featuring ring toss, a fish pond, washer toss, a basketball 21-point shooting contest, corn hole games, and the much loved cake walks. Tickets for games will be sold at two for $1.
Prizes will be given for the games.
Along with the games, there will be food grilled by Auburn's Mayor Dewey Roche and members of Auburn Tourism Commission consisting of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, nachos and cheese and drinks. Donations of cakes are being taken for the cake walk.
Anyone wishing to donate cakes may take them to Auburn City Hall by Friday.
Assisting members of Auburn Tourism Commission for Friday Fun Night will be some of Auburn School Junior Beta Club members.
Things get started again bright and early on Saturday morning, the Auburn American Legion Post 258 will be cooking up their famous pancake breakfast from 7 till 10 a.m. at the American Legion hall. This breakfast prepared by Auburn's dedicated legionnaires will consist of pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee.
To work off those pancakes, Dana Bell of Lifeforce is organizing the "Hope for the Hungry" 5K Run/Walk beginning at 8 a.m. Everyone participating in the 5K will also be entered in a drawing for $250 in cash giveaways. The Kid's Dash begins at 8:45 a.m. for children between the ages of 5-12 years old. There will also be a boys and girls bicycle given away in a drawing for the kids that participate in the Kid's Dash along with a free month of Kung Fu. All proceeds from this event will go to purchase Thanksgiving turkeys for families in Logan County. All participants should be registered and ready by 7:45 a.m. at the Auburn City Park. Those interested in participating may contact Dana Bell at 791-3136.
Beginning at 8 a.m., vendors with crafts, collectibles and food will be surrounding the town square. Booths rented so far include items for sale such as homemade jellies and jams, home baked goods, Pampered Chef, homemade lemonade, potted mums, personalized Christmas ornaments, Story of Christ Bracelets, pumpkins, gourds and honey, furniture, glassware and crafts, Mary Kay Cosmetics, jewelry, stone crafts and photography. There will also be kids games on the
square.
For those wishing to still rent a booth, there is still time and spaces available for rent. The price for renting a booth is $20 and $25 for booths with electricity. Contact Auburn City Hall at 542-4149 to rent a space.
The day will be fun-filled for children of all ages, as the Shriner Clowns will be blowing up animal balloons for the children and clowning around on the square next to the Linton House. Any donations collected will go directly to support the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Be sure to stop by the Auburn Tourism Commission's table on the square and purchase an event T-shirt for the low price of only $5. If you wish to purchase one prior to the event, you may do so at Auburn City Hall.
There is also a full day of live music planned to be held on the front porch of the Linton House Grounds (right next to the US Bank on the square). Plan to sit back and be entertained with some much loved gospel music from some
of the best talent anywhere. The musicians that will be performing on Saturday will be:
• The Crusaders - 10 to 11 a.m.
• Southern Legacy - 11 a.m. to noon
• Salem Ridge - noon to 1 p.m.
• Overholt Family - 1 to 2 p.m.
• Dale Etheridge & Friends - 2 to 3 p.m.
• Mission of Love - 3 to 4 p.m.
Some other points of interest going on in town throughout the day will be the Quilt Show and Sale from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. on the square behind US Bank and the amazing Modular Railroad show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Auburn Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
The Logan County 4-H Club will be providing pony rides at the Auburn City Park. Be sure to take the kids down to the park for a ride and support the Logan County 4-H organization.
And for a “splash” of fun and to practice your pitching skills, be sure to take your shot at the Dunking Booth located beside the Fire Department and get your chance to dunk your favorite official and/or celebrity.
And last but certainly not least, everyone is invited to join in the finale of the weekend's events for the dinner and silent auction that will be held from 5 till 7 p.m. at the Auburn School cafeteria. This event has been moved this year to the Auburn School rather than the Fire Department. Auburn Tourism Commission looks forward to serving a delicious fish dinner in the school where patrons can dine comfortably in the air-conditioned facility.
Dinner will begin being served at 5 p.m. with the auction to follow at 6:30 p.m. There are numerous items to be auctioned and for sure something for everyone.
The dinner will consist of fish, coleslaw, white beans, hush-puppies, cobbler and a drink and will cost $8 for adults and $4 for children. All dinner tickets will be sold at the front door of Auburn School. Some of the Auburn City Council will be serving dinner.
Many area businesses and individuals have donated items for the auction, including tickets to area attractions such as The Nashville Zoo, Kentucky Down Under and Lost River Cave. Auburn's Ken Robbins will be serving as the auctioneer. If you would like to donate an item(s) for the auction, please take it to Auburn City Hall.
The raffle for a hand-crafted Cherry Sugar Chest from Auburn's very own Colonial House Furniture is going on now and some lucky person's name will be drawn at the auction. Raffle tickets are available three for $1 and may be purchased at many Auburn businesses, including Auburn City Hall. Raffle tickets will also be available at the Auburn Tourism Commission's table on the square.
Also, the Auburn Museum will be open from 1 till 5 p.m. for your patronage. Artwork by local Clifford Poole will be featured.
