Last weekend when the 11- and 12-year-olds from all over the county knocked off the Indiana state champions in Indianapolis, they became only the sixth league from Kentucky to ever qualify for the LLWS.
And to do so from a small community like this one makes it even more special, because that feat is usually reserved for the likes of Kentucky’s largest cities like Louisville, Lexington and Owensboro.
Even Bowling Green has never had a team play in the regional championship game – much less win one.
No, this team has earned every bit of the recognition it has received.
Almost equally impressive is the way the community has come together to support the team and their families.
The $65,000 that was raised in support of them is nothing short of miraculous – especially in such a depressed economy.
Everyone from First Southern National Bank’s donation of $10,000 down to each individual that purchased a steak sandwich on the square Wednesday should take pride in the part they played to help out the team.
The members of the Logan County Little League All-Stars are Zach Denney, Caleb Bruner, Barrett Croslin, Matt Harper, Joe Holliday, Daniel Beatty, Tucker Baldwin, Ian Woodall, Desmon Quarles and Jacob Wood. It is coached by Kevin Gettings and Ronnie Croslin.
They play again on Saturday night against the West Region champions from Chula Vista, Calif.
It’s going to be a tough game for Logan County. All of their pool play games will be.
Win or lose, they have already done Logan County proud.
They are now and will always be champions.
