The Logan Sheriff’s Department is one step closer to solving one of the county’s largest stolen property cases in years.

In July, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Police called the Logan County Sheriff's Department for assistance after locating a backhoe stolen from Bowling Green in the Thompson Chapel Road area. Two tractors were located on the property as well.

The investigations uncovered two more tractors, trailers and several pieces of farm equipment- some of which were stolen from other states. Agencies tracked down even more stolen equipment in Todd County.

According to a police report, the total dollar amount of the property recovered is close to $300,000.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Department arrested Fred Riddle (aka Sonny Riddle) of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn. on Aug. 11 in connection with these crimes.

Riddle was indicted by a Logan County Grand Jury and charged with five counts of receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more, one count of receiving stolen property under $10,000, five counts of theft by deception $10,000 or more and one count of theft by deception under $10,000.

According to the indictment, Riddle is being accused of possessing a Case backhoe and 10 ton trailer stolen from CSX in Warren County, possessing a Kubota tractor stolen from Robertson Construction in Dickson County, Tenn., possessing a Kubota tractor stolen from Blackwell Construction in Clarksville, Tenn., possessing a 18 foot trailer stolen from Richard Griffin of Dickson, Tenn. and possessing a Ford tractor stolen from Dickson County, Tenn. He is also being accused of selling said stolen property.

Additional charges are expected in Todd County. Riddle is lodged in the Logan County Detention center under a $50,000 bond.
