The Board of Trustees at Logan Memorial Hospital is announced Monday that William C. Haugh will become the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective September 28.

“Those who assisted in the interview process were very impressed with William and know that he’s going to be a great fit for our community,” said Marshall Kemp, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for LMH. “His experiences, education and training make him an excellent choice for our hospital as we seek to take the outstanding care that's being provided to the next level. Additionally he brings the ability to lead the hospital in making the necessary changes that will soon become part of health care while keeping the hospital current with new demands. We know that the community will join our Board of Trustees and hospital staff in welcoming William as our new CEO.”

Haugh comes to Kentucky from Virginia where has been serving as Chief Operating Officer for Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County since March of 2008. Prior to that, he served as Administrative Resident for Memorial Hospital and Danville Regional Medical Center. Both facilities are affiliated with LifePoint Hospitals – as is Logan Memorial. He has also held positions at St. Mary’s Hospital with Bon Secours Richmond Health System in Richmond, Va.; WakeMed Health and Hospitals in Raleigh, North Carolina; and Halifax Regional Health System in South Boston, Virginia. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

According to Thomas M. Weiss, President of LifePoint Hospitals’ Continental Division of which LMH is a part: “William is an exceptionally talented leader who has been recognized by his peers and co-workers. He has done an outstanding job during his tenure as COO for Memorial Hospital, as well as excelling in four prior hospital positions. He brings both energy and experience that will help to lead the hospital forward. We are appreciative of the excellent job that Ron Tyrer has done as Interim CEO during the past months, and look forward to welcoming William to this new role.”

Haugh earned his bachelor’s degree in science in management and information technology from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., where he graduated with honors. He then completed his master’s degree in health administration at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was the James Fleetwood Scholar from 2005-08 and was selected as 2008 class president by his peers. In 2007 he was presented the Richard Bracken Leadership Award.

“I am very impressed with Logan Memorial Hospital,” Haugh said. “There’s an extraordinary level of advanced technology that is available, especially in the Imaging Department and Operating Rooms. There’s a strong management team and the staff is incredibly loyal. I was also impressed with the physicians I met as well as with the medical staff’s involvement in the interview process. Overall my focus will be on improving the patient and physician experience with the organization to make Logan Memorial Hospital the healthcare provider of choice in Russellville and Logan County.”

A native of South Boston, Virginia, Haugh stated that Russellville reminds him very much of his hometown which has a similar size population and economic base.
