The Adairville/South Logan Chamber is in the process of placing a series of historical markers telling of historical things such as the great cave on the east side of town, Red River Church where the second great awakening occurred, the early home for Peter Cartwright who went on to be one of the most famous religious leaders this country has ever had, and the haunting frame house also on the west side of town which housed Jesse and Frank James on their frequent stays with their kin in Adairville.
The site of one of the two most famous duels in America is on the west side of town on what is now called the Parker farm. The famous shoot out of the local town police chief and one of the second generation of Youngers. (Famous as bandits and highwaymen.) The former Vice President of the United States, Aaron Burr, who was a revolutionary adventurer, who came to stay with family and to leave several children in Adairville when he went to Europe. Beauty queens, generals, the world’s most famous poker player, famous rodeo clown, world record holder in speed boat racing. The family of Commander Armstead, the commander at Fort McHenry when the Star Spangled Banner was written. A boy singer who was a talent winner in the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour radio show. Martha Ewing who was a near Miss America who turned her finalist position into performing at the famous Latin Quarter, then as a Roxiette, appearing on Broadway in a number of productions, then in a number of movies with Burt Lair. She went on to be one of the top women in the world in golf. There is probably no small town in America that claims so many remarkable people lived there. And there many more.

With A Smile: A blond joke. Recently on a Delta Airline flight to Toronto I witnessed a very attractive blond woman who got up on the flight and left her seat in economy class and went forward to the first class section. She sat down. Immediately the flight attendant walked over to the blond and asked to see her ticket. The blond simply said, "I am blond, I am pretty, I am going to Toronto and I don’t want to move.”
The flight attendant went after the co pilot of the plane. He also told the blond you will have to move. Her reply was “I am blond, I am pretty, I am going to Toronto and I am not moving.”
The captain came out next. He stated that he was married to a blond and he new how to handle the lady.
The pilot went up to the blond and whispered in her ear. She immediately thanked him and got up and returned to coach/economy class. The flight attendant asked the pilot what had he said to make the blond move. The pilot’s answer was I simply told her first class did not go to Toronto. She wanted to go to Toronto so she got up. She is a blond!
Till next time. Good night Mrs. Orndorf, Mrs. Moore, Mary Crotzer, Mrs Peggy and Mrs. Calabash where ever you are!
