Carter said he felt the court needed to discuss the center at the next scheduled meeting. He is concerned about purchasing a building to put out at the center on Morgantown Road specifically to take Simpson County’s recyclables, which are causing quite a mess out at the center according to Jailer Bill Jenkins, who is handling the recycling center.
Carter said he wants the court to decide if they need to keep taking other counties’ recyclables since it seems to be costing the county to do so. Taking recyclables not only protects the environment but it used to generate money when the cardboard industry was up.
According to Magistrate Jo Orange, the county applied and was awarded a grant with Simpson County to purchase some equipment. She wasn’t sure how long the two county’s had to partner because of the grant.
Carter said that was one of the things that needed to be found out. He said the county was spending money by taking the neighboring county’s recyclables and if they purchased a building to keep Simpson County’s recyclables from blowing and making a mess it would cost even more. “We need to either get out of this or make it bigger,” said Carter.
