The Fifth Annual Adairville Car and Tractor Show, part of the beginning festivities of the 63rd Annual Adairville Strawberry Festival, was held Saturday, May 9, 2009, on the downtown square. Although morning rain and clouds gave way to sunny blue skies by the start of the show, understandably, the weather kept some participants and spectators away. Nonetheless, all who came enjoyed the automobiles and tractors on display and patronized with the vendors and city businesses around the town square.
First, Second, and Third Place trophies were awarded in the Car, Truck, and Tractor categories, and First and Second Place trophies were awarded in the Lawn Tractor category. The car and tractor owners themselves voted these trophies. A “People’s Choice” trophy was awarded in the Automobile (car or truck) and Tractor categories, and was voted on by the spectators.
The first place trophy in the Car category went to Doug Orndorff and Seymour of Adairville for his entry of a 1970 Chevy Chevell. First place in the truck category went to Jim Trimble of Adairville for his entry of a 1951 pick-up. First place in the tractor category went to Lloyd Burchett, Olmstead, Kentucky, for his entry of a 1946 A John Deere. The First Place winner in the Lawn Tractor category went to Bobby and Pam Nicodemus, Adairville, Kentucky, for their entry, a 1973 John Deere 140. The “People’s Choice” trophy for automobiles went to Jim and Janet Trimble of Adairville for their 1951 Pick-up and for tractors to John M. Barnes, Adairville, Kentucky, for his 1962 John Deere Combine. Besides receiving a trophy, each first place winner received a certificate good for one free entry into the 2010 Adairville Car and Tractor Show.
Prizes were awarded throughout the show, with all who purchased a raffle ticket having an opportunity to win. The grand prize was a GPS Navigation Unit, valued at $195, which was won by Larry Scott. Proceeds raised are used by the Adairville-South Logan Chamber of Commerce to promote economic development of the Adairville community and for city beautification projects.
The Adairville Car and Tractor Show is held each year on the second Saturday of May, and is open to all categories, for anyone wishing to enter. The event is sponsored by the Adairville/South Logan Chamber of Commerce and they would like to thank all who participated, visited, the volunteers who coordinated and operated the show, the Adairville merchants and the Adairville city government for their support of the Strawberry Festival and its events.
