Hello from south Logan County! It’s nice to know we were missed the week the community news journalists all took a vacation and our columns did not appear. Thank you for the calls, e-mails and notes. It is nice to be back!

South Logan is gearing up for Adairville’s 63rd Annual Strawberry Festival May 9-16. It all gets started on May 9 with the annual 5K Run through the streets of Adairville. This year’s race promises to be one of the largest ever. There are lots of prizes and fun for all who participate or just watch.

That same day the great annual antique car and tractor show gets underway at noon. This is going to be a lot of fun with some great vehicles on display. Again there will be lots of prizes and ribbons for the winners.

There will be food venders, prizes for the spectators and a lot of fun to be had.

At 5:30 p.m. May 16 the Adairville/South Logan County Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Strawberry Festival Dinner & Awards Banquet. This promises to be a real high light of the weekend festivities. The steak dinner should be a good one since Sarah Shoulders will be preparing the food. Her assistant will be Guy Gunderson. Tickets can be purchased at city hall or from officers of the chamber.

On Thursday, May 13 the Casey Rides open at 4 p.m. Arm bands are available from Barnes Insurance, Davis Hardware Store, IGA Grocery, Ms. Nancy's Gift Shop and city hall. The arm bands are good for unlimited rides on May 14 - 16. The price of the arm bands remains the same as last year at $28. The Born Again Quartet will sing from 5 to 6:30 p.m. From 7 till 9 p.m. the top rated Nickie Riggins band will play. (Nicki is the son of proud parents Bud Riggins and Lois Riggins Ezel.)

On Friday, May 15 the rides open at 4 p.m. There will be lots of food venders, a quilt and art show, barn quilt art for sale and at night lots of music. The number one bluegrass band in south western Kentucky will play from 7 to 9 p.m. This is the Barry Silvey group Mostly Bluegrass. They hail from Lewisburg and frequently play at the Webbs Restaurant.

Saturday, May 16 is the big final day. Rides open at 10 a.m. The reenactment of the Jackson-Dickinson Duel is at 1:45 p.m., the big parade starts at 2 p.m. and is followed at 3 p.m. with a special presentation for Ms. Brenda Lee the 2009 Strawberry Festival Grand Queen. That afternoon there will be a karaoke contest. In the evening there will be a rock show. (Note: There will be a newspaper ad giving more information) Come and enjoy this fun filled week. It is going to be a great week of events.

This Saturday Night there will be karaoke at the Fish & Game Habitat. Admission is only $2 per person. Food will be served at a small price. Lots of fun at the Red River Fish & Game Habitat this Saturday. The public is invited.

All for now. Best wishes to all and to all a good night! Good night Ms. Calabash where ever you are!
