Free Parenting Classes are being conducted each Thursday in April at 10 a.m. at Stevenson Elementary School. We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition) is a public education outreach program designed to help children 8 – 13 years old stay at a healthy weight through improving food choices, increasing physical activity and reducing screen time. Parents and participants will explore the concept of “energy balance”, or the balance between Energy In (calories in food) and Energy Out (calories burned through physical activity). We will also focus on how to find healthy choices while on a budget! Call the Stevenson Elementary Family Resource Center at 726-4798 to make reservations. The topic on Thursday, April 16 will be Maintain a Healthy Weight: The Energy Balance Equation which introduces the concept of energy balance and explores two issues that have a big impact on the equations– portion size and time spent in physical activity every day.
