The kids will be happy to know that the Easter Bunny has accepted an invitation to return for the big day on Saturday April 11. Possibly, both Mr. & Mrs. Bunny will be back this year for their much anticipated visit. They will ride in the parade and pose for pictures afterwards.
Highly popular and long-time county magistrate Harold Prince and his wife, Cecil, will serve as the Grand Marshals of the Adairville Easter Parade. They will join with many leading citizens of the county, antique car and tractor owners, civic organizations, clowns and many others who will be in the parade. Anyone interested in being in the parade should contact the parade organizers Ms. Ramsey at 847-6235 or Ms. Costello at 847-8049. The parade will begin at noon on Saturday, April 11 and will be followed by the Easter Egg Hunt.
Debbie Ramsey, the events chair, reports that she is expecting an even larger turn out than last year when hundreds of kids along with their families descended on Adairville and enjoyed a fun-filled day. Hundreds of dollars in special prizes and Easter Eggs have been obtained for the big hunt that will be in the town square park. The hunt is for the children of all Logan County but children from other counties are also welcomed.
Ladies or gentleman wishing to enter the Easter Bonnet Contest should turn their hats in at the Headquarters Hair Salon on the square. The deadline for entering this contest is noon on Friday, April 10. The winners will receive some great prizes and be asked to be in the parade as well.
Games for the kids will also begin at 10 a.m. on the square. There are prizes for all game events. The games will end just prior to the parade.
The Adairville/South Logan County Chamber of Commerce sponsors this annual event and encourages all citizens to participate. The event keeps alive one of the oldest traditions in America which goes back for over 150 years. The oldest such parade in the country is in New Orleans. Adairville and Louisville hold the only two remaining Easter Parades in Kentucky. The chamber invites all citizens to come and enjoy an old-fashioned day of fun for the entire family in historic Adairville.
Following the Easter Egg Hunt there will be a free concert and live music for all to enjoy. This will be in the park in front of the new band stand. In addition, there will be food vendors, balloons and more for the entire family to enjoy.
On Sunday, April 12 many of the local churches will be participating in a joint Sunrise Easter Service at the General Baptist Church. A complimentary breakfast will be offered to those attending. The chamber encourages local citizens to support this event and that of other churches as well.
