Camilla Elizabeth Hughes, 88, of Auburn, died Monday, March 18, 2013, in the Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green.
She was born in Logan County on Sept. 22, 1924, a daughter of the late William A. and Cynthia Forgy Newman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold H. and Otis Newman and her half-brothers, Alva, Ruva, Raymond and Clyde Newman.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church for 60 years and a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with Brother Barry Raley and Brother Tony Chaudoin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation began at the church Tuesday, March 19 from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 20 from 11 a.m. until time of service. Young Funeral Home Auburn Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Dean Gipson, Paul Collins, Tim Taylor, Shaun Gipson, Jonathan Hughes, Richard Carpenter and Carroll Browning. Honorary Pallbearers were Penny Hughes, Erica Gipson, Hannah and Camille Collins, Ashley and Katherine Taylor and Aidan and Addison Hughes.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thomas E. Hughes; her sons, Ray Hughes and Delain, Charlie Hughes and Teresa and Danny Hughes and Staci, all of Auburn; Her daughters, Sarah Gipson and Dean, Joyce Taylor and Tim and Rebecca Collins and Paul, all of Auburn; her sister, Elsie Carpenter of Auburn; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The family request donations be made to the New Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
