The Logan County Cougars faced the Warren East Raiders on Thursday after their 3-0 win against Hopkinsville at their season opener. The Cougars played a tight game, but took the victory in the seventh inning of the game. The Cougars would walk away with a 3-2 win.

The game started off slow but it would be the Cougars to score the first run of the game. Matt Harper got the first run in the third inning to put the Cougars up 1-0.

The Cougars were able to hold off the Raiders for a good portion of the game, but the Raiders were not done fighting yet.

The bases were loaded in the bottom of the sixth and it was up to the Cougars to get the final out. The Raiders hit what seemed like an easy shot but the Cougars made a mistake and fumbled with the ball too long, letting the Raiders score two runs to put them up 2-1 going into the final inning.

The Cougars easily loaded the bases early in the seventh inning to prepare for a big play. The Cougars needed a good hit to gain the lead, and they got it.

Dustin Cartas hit a double into center field, allowing senior Ryan Basham and Matt Harper to take the lead of 3-2.

The Cougars would get their three out to seal their win over the Raiders.

Pitcher Caleb Bruner had a good game for the Cougars, pitching 10 strike outs with only two runs. Matt Harper led the Cougars in runs with two and Ryan Basham with one.

“We had too many strike outs in the game but they boys did a good job,” said head coach Ethan Meguiar. “Some positives were Dustin Cartas driving in two good runs and our pitching. They did not hit the panic button after they lost the lead but came together and won.”

The Cougars will play the Greenwood Gators tonight at home at 5 p.m.
