The Logan County High School baseball team lost a pair of tough games this week to begin the season.

The Cougars opened with a 4-2 loss at Allen County-Scottsville on Monday.

Tyler Coleman was the losing pitcher for LCHS

The Cougars got a run in the first inning when Gabriel Combs led off with a triple and later scored on an infield single by Dustin Lee.

The Patriots then took the lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning.

“Coleman settled down and pitched much better after the first couple of innings, he went five innings,” LCHS coach Ethan Meguiar said. “Harper had two hits and played a good defensive game at short, Matt Cook also had a single. Lawton Jackson threw the last inning. We played pretty well overall defensively only a couple of errors.”

Logan County lost 9-5 at Barren County on Tuesday.

Brett Sowell was the losing pitcher, going four innings gave up six runs. The Trojans also hit a three-run homer in the first and got four total runs that inning.

“Brett settled down and pitched better, but hurt himself with walks,” Meguiar said. “Lawton Jackson threw the final two innings in relief again, but gave up three in the sixth inning himself. We committed one error. We had 10 hits to their 11 hits. We just did not pitch well enough to win, and stranded lots of runners.”

Logan County (0-2) was scheduled to play its home opener on Thursday night against Bowling Green High. The Cougars are also scheduled to play a pair of games Saturday at Glasgow, taking on the host Scotties at 11 a.m. and Cumberland County at 1:30 p.m.

Russellville Panthers

The Panthers were the only local baseball or softball team to open the season with a victory.

Russellville pounded Fort Campbell 21-3 in just five innings on Monday evening.

The Panthers will be back in action tonight at Clarksville Academy and then play at home Saturday against Butler County.
