Joel Armistead of Adairville was honored by DEKALB Corn at the 2009 Commodity Classic for his first-place state finish in the 2008 National Corn Yield Contest, sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).

Joel Armistead has been farming for over 30 years and grows corn, soybeans and wheat. Armistead, who farms with his father, Raymond, and son, Zach, was awarded first place in the No-Till/Strip-Till Irrigated category. His winning entry was with DEKALB DKC63-42 brand.

Armistead said, “On my operation, the DKC63-42 brand corn ranked at the top for health, yield and standability.”

In recognition of this achievement, Monsanto awarded Armistead a trip for two to the recent 2009 Commodity Classic in Grapevine, Texas, and a commemorative plaque. At the Commodity Classic, he had the opportunity to speak with agribusiness leaders, learn from industry experts and network with other successful farmers from around the country.

“We were proud to honor Joel Armistead at this year’s Commodity Classic,” said Jenny Boyd, DEKALB Corn Marketing Manager. “His success exemplifies what is possible with the combination of industry-leading DEKALB genetics and superior crop-management skills, and illustrates why farmers can be confident in their decision to plant DEKALB brand products.”

From 2007 to 2008, the percentage of DEKALB winners increased by 35 percent.
