The City of Russellville will soon begin another phase of its Streetscape project. This phase will encompass the block on the west side of Main Street in front of the mayor’s office and travel around the Carrico Square.

The Russellville Streetscape Project began a few years ago as the city received grant monies to make several changes to the downtown area of Russellville. Revitalizing the downtown area was the initiative of Main Street Russellville, wanting to help bring the community back downtown.

Main Street Russellville, an arm of the city and organization created to promote and restore the downtown area, was awarded a $325,000 streetscape grant in 2008. The organization has been patiently waiting to complete the multi-phase project which will eventually include the entire downtown area. Because the project is so large, it must be completed in phases.

The first phase of the project began at 5th & Main Streets and traveled down the sidewalk to the corner of 4th & Main Streets. The sidewalks were demolished and replaced with new concrete, the curbing was detailed in Belgian block, new lightning was placed, as were trash containers complete with foliage and bump outs placed from the curbs in several areas, which hold beautiful flowering.

Russellville Mayor Mark Stratton said the Carrico Square will receive the Belgian curbing as well during this next phase to better blend into the other blocks to be revitalized. Other changes will include seating, signage and more trash containers.
