Charles E. “Bill” Greer, 98, of Russellville, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Warren County on Sept. 14, 1914, a son of the late Luther and Fannie Shumake Greer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Greer was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Harper Greer.

Mr. Greer was a member of the Southern Heights Baptist Church, served his country as a medic in the United States Army in the Pacific and European Theaters, and served on the Russellville City Council.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Young Funeral Home Russellville Chapel with Brother Carl Freudenthal and Brother Calvin Naylor officiating. Burial followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation began at the funeral home Saturday, Feb. 9 from 5-8 p.m.

Pallbearers were David Clay Wilkins, Stephen Wilkins, Pat Suiter, Brian Wilkins, Jeff Switzer, Ben Harper, Bob Rogers and Travis Varble.

He is survived by his son, Rawlie Greer and Donna of Russellville; his daughter, Cheryl Greer Rogers of Russellville; his sisters, Esther Bishop of Russellville and Emma Kay Browning of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandchildren, Amy Varble and Mallory Rogers, and his great-grandchildren, JoBeth Varble and Abigail Varble.

The family ask that donations be made to the Logan County Humane Society or the Southern Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
