Keep the Bible in our schools

Dear Editor:

The Governor of Connecticut said it best when describing the Sandy Hook tragedy, “Evil has come to this town.”

I remember when prayer and Bible reading was out-lawed in public schools in 1963 because of one woman, Madalyn Murray O’Hair. Wherever the Word of God is honored it has a restraining effect on evil. Public schools are the best example of this.

Before 1963, when the Ten Commandments were posted, the Lord’s prayer was said and the Bible was read daily. The worst things that happened in schools then were talking in class, chewing gum, etc. Schools were the safest place you could leave a child. Since 1963, drugs, immorality in all forms and murder have steadily escalated in our schools. Now we see one person trying to keep the word of God from being distributed in our own public schools.

The same group of people that demand tolerance have become the most intolerant in society.
