A woman and a 3-year-old child were involved in an accident Thursday afternoon that claimed the life of 54-year-old Barbara Christian and sent her young grandson to the hospital, where he later died.

According to a police report, the Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single-vehicle accident on the 6100 block of Spa Road in north Logan County at 12:54 p.m.

A 2000 Mercury SUV driven by Christian, whose address was on Spa Road, was eastbound before dropping off the shoulder of the road, the report said.

Christian over-corrected and the vehicle turned over numerous times, according to the report. Both Christian and the unnamed child were ejected from the vehicle. Christian was pronounced dead at the scene and the child was taken by helicopter to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, where he passed away from his injuries.

According to the report, Christian was not wearing her seat belt.

The accident is being investigated by Lt. Jeff Sanford of the Sheriff’s Department. He was assisted on the scene by Sgt. Clint Wright, deputy Laura Hadden, deputy Giles Taylor, Capt. Steven Stratton, the Lewisburg Rural Fire Department, and both the Logan and Todd county EMS.
