Oh, what a blessed invitation to sinful man from the lips of the fountain of life. Our text tells us that it was the last day of the great feast.

The feast at hand was the Feast of Tabernacles, which had developed into an 80-day feast. On the last day of the feast, a golden pitcher of water was to be drawn from the pool of Siloam and taken into possession of priests to the Temple as they sang from Isaiah 12:3.

How fitting on that very day Jesus cried if any man be of thirst, let him come unto me. First, man must become thirsty. The unsaved person will never become thirsty until God creates that thirst. We could offer water to 100 people. Only those who were thirsty would come to the water.

As long as a sinner is satisfied with in what they have, they will not come to the water. Jesus was telling them that the water from the pool of Siloam would not satisfy their eternal thirst.

Jesus tells all that He has made thirsty, come and drink of the water of life freely.

Grace is free because it is God that makes us thirsty and also provides the water of life, Jesus Christ.
