Francis “Frank” Warta, 83, of Savanna, Ill., formerly of Russellville, died Nov. 14, 2012, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Ill.
He was born in New Jersey Dec. 18, 1928, a son of the late John and Victoria (Schalbrach) Warta. In addition to his parents, Mr. Warta was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Sword; his sons, Francis Jr. and Michael and Patrick Warta; his grandsons, David Snetcher and Brock Williams, and his son-in-law, Wayne Sword.
Mr. Warta attended Doylestown High School, Penn., and graduated from Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, Penn. He served in the United States Army, playing the tuba during the U.S. Reconstruction of Europe. On August 11, 1951, Frank married Doris Shelmire. Frank worked for U.S. Harvestore for many years. He was a life-long, devout practicing Catholic.
A private graveside service was held in the Saint Wendelin Catholic Cemetery, Shannon, Ill.
He is survived by his children, Mary (Steve Schneider) Schrage of Nebraska, Patricia Warta and Katherine (Gary) Crede both of Mouth of Wilson, Va., Karen (Thomas) Williams of Russellville, Ky., Theresa (Craig) Dyar of Savannah, Ga. and Susan Warta of Bowling Green, Ky.; his sons, Thomas Warta of Florida, James Warta of Pennsylvania and Matthew Warta of Kentucky; 15 grandchildren, including Carri (David) Oslager of Elgin, Ill., and eight great-grandchildren.
