Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone! Every year we get all excited and get out all the recipes that we were going to try last year and look them over. You remember you promised yourself that you would try them out next year! You didn’t cook them then and once again you did not choose to cook them this year! So I suggest you just “THROW THEM AWAY”, that’s right file them in the trash can because they are just cluttering up your recipe box.

I know you just did the same thing you did last year, just went back to the same routine that everyone loves; turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and don’t forget the green bean casserole! As they say, “if it’s not broke don’t fix it”

I hate to tell you this but “old Tulip Green” did something different. I did not cook hardly anything! Don’t faint, I know you thought I just “cooked up a storm” but I did not. I heard my sister in law was having a big Thanksgiving Dinner and I just called her up and “invited myself”! Now wasn’t that smart. She told me she was fixing to call me to invite me so I was glad I went on and called her first. You see she has asked me in years past but you know me; I just thought I had to do it all myself. But this year, I even tried a new recipe for cranberry sauce and I fixed deviled eggs; two dozen of them. Can you imagine how many eggs I had? I also will give you a little clue. If you take the carton that the eggs come in and wash it out real good, then spread saran wrap over the openings for the eggs; then push your finger into the little holder where the eggs were and you can carry your deviled eggs to the dinner and don’t have to worry about bringing a dirty dish home!

Well, we all had plenty to eat; too much in fact. She had two turkeys, one fried and one baked, a ham and my daughter just had to make barbeque! Ask me if she had a full table? She had so much food it was hard to choose what you wanted to eat and it certainly was hard to count all those calories that I was pushing in my mouth; especially the home make bread. Also, I have got to get the Hubby in this picture. She made corn bread dressing for him! He thought he had “died and gone to heaven”. Ask me if he lapped it up; especially when he noticed the gravy that went with it. She was so wonderful; she even packed him a plastic bag of dressing to take home. He just hauled off and gave her a big hug and “smack-a-roo” on the cheek of course before we left. She forgot to include the gravy but that was okay cause the Hubby ate it for lunch on Black Friday! See you thought I left the Hubby completely out of the picture but for some reason everywhere I go everybody wants to know, “did you bring The Hubby”? He can be a lovely person when food is involved!

We all went home with a full tummy and you guess it; I watched the football game. It was San Francisco and the Bears. Now, I know some of you ladies won’t know what I am talking about but as I have said before, you don’t know what you’re missing! My team won and I was shouting and hollering so loud the Hubby said one again, “for goodness sake”, calm yourself down”! You will have a stroke. As you know he is always telling me that because he is afraid he will have to wait on me and that would be terrible not only for him but for me. It also would be hard for you all too; I wouldn’t be able to type this column. You see the Hubby can’t type!

Thanksgiving is over and now it is on to Christmas. I know all of you went shopping on Black Friday! Not me…this is the first year I did not fight the crowds for all the bargains. I left that to all the younger generation. When you get my age, you just look back at all the years past and relive your memories. Those happy times are more precious as you relive them in your easy chair.

Well, its good bye for now will see you next time. Put up your Christmas tree and enjoy the heck out of it. Be a kid again and hang up your stocking so you can dream about what Santa Claus will put in it this year.
