The middle school basketball season kicked off the season on Tuesday with a boy and girl double header against the Russellville Panthers and the Olmstead Rams. The Lady Rams played first and won 34-24 while the Russellville Panthers won the boys game 47-18.
The girls played first with the Lady Rams taking the win for the night after a very big first half. The Lady Panthers attempted to come back in the second half but the Lady Rams offense didn’t let that happen as they took the 34-24 win.
Logan Williamson lead the Lady Rams on Tuesday with a total of 12 points. Loreal Cheaney lead the Lady Panthers with eight points.
“We used tonight as a training for the younger girls, mixing them in with the older ones. We made some mistakes but we’re going to correct those later on. We missed a lot of free throws but we’re going to get better,” said Olmstead head coach Daniel Alvis.
The boys played next with the Russellville Panthers coming to the court, excited to play ball. The Panthers took on a big lead early in the game scoring 22 points compared to the 10 scored by the Rams. The Panthers came out of the half to score an extra 25 points to easily win the game 47-18.
The Panthers were lead by M.J. Jones with a total of 24 total points. The Rams were lead by Lorenzo Garcia with seven points.
“I think we came out too excited tonight but we have a very good group of boys. We didn’t run the offensive like we should have but the effort was there we just have to work on the execution,” said Russellville coach Pete Ries.
