For the first time, a group of select 4-H members will travel across the state to showcase their fine arts talents in the newly created 4-H Performing Arts Troupe.

The troupe was developed as a result of the success and popularity of the Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference’s Talent Show track. Troupe members will perform at several 4-H and other UK Cooperative Extension Service functions throughout the year. In addition to the performers, the troupe includes a technical staff member, who works behind the scenes with sets, sounds, lights and numerous other duties. Their first performance is Nov. 15-18 during the 4-H Issues Conference at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Center.

In addition to performing, the 4-H’ers will serve as members of Kentucky 4-H’s Performing Arts Board. As board members, the young people will plan, coordinate and lead a fine arts educational opportunity for middle school students.

Troupe members were chosen by the troupe’s directors and a selection committee in October after undergoing an application process. Performers had to submit a two-minute audition via YouTube as part of their application. Troupe members will serve 4-H through June.

Performers in the 2012-2013 troupe are Ashley Smith, Owen County; Riley Jenkins, Morgan County; Halie Sawyers, Todd County; Deidra Bratcher, Butler County; Katilyn Hoskins, Clay County; and Michaela Rock, Larue County. Janetta Kelly of Clay County is the member of the technical staff.
