Dear Editor:

The Russellville Arts Council wishes to thank all of those who participated and enjoyed their first Visual Arts Festival “A Harvest of the Arts” in conjunction with the 2012 Tobacco Festival in Russellville. This event was inspired and organized by member, Elizabeth Holland, art teacher from Logan County High School.

We truly thank Kathi Steenbergen and the fine folks at First Southern Bank for hosting our exhibit and their willingness to open for public showings during the Tobacco Festival. In addition we appreciate Judge Logan Chick for the space given for our family art event “Arts in the A.M.” at the Old Logan County Courthouse. Many thanks to the News-Democrat & Leader and WRUS-AM for their help as we reach out to the artistic community within Logan County.

During the Festival, twenty-five art works including paintings, fiber-art, ceramics, and drawings were displayed in the foyer and in a special display room at First Southern. After judging by Dr. Yvonne Pectus from Western Kentucky University the following works of art were evaluated for their outstanding artistic talent: First Place- “Unlimited” (oil), Enid Whitson; Second Place- “Yellow Primroses” (quilt), Joanne Fransen-Gilliam; Third Place- “Crackhead” (ceramic), Steve Metzger ; and Honorable Mention - “Peppers” (oil), Pat Hetterman.

We congratulate these artists and look forward to recognizing them on November 3rd at the Benefit Art Auction/ deGraffenried Chorale Concert at Russellville High School which starts at 5:30 Saturday evening.

Larry Vaught
