Perry Newman Forsythe, 80, of Penrod, died Wedensday, Sept. 19, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Penrod Dec. 1, 1931, a son of the late Reverend Raymond and Altha (Perry) Forsythe. In addition to his parents. Mr. Forsythe was preceded in death by his siblings, Hayes, Willard, Walter and John Thomas (JT) Forsythe and Christine Hood.
Mr. Forsythe served in the Korean Conflict from 1950-1953. He was a 30-year steel worker in Northwest Indiana, retiring and returning to Kentucky in 1983. He was a licensed baseball umpire, involved in Little League, high school, and youth leagues and also church softball. He was a member of Orchard Drive Baptist Church in Indiana and then Penrod Baptist Church in Penrod, Ky., a member of the VFW, Amvets, American Legion and the Masonic Lodge #842 F&AM.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elwanda (Cox) Forsythe; his children, Rita (Neil) Mefford of Central City, Reverend Randall (Jean) Forsythe of Portage, Ind. and Jeffrey (Nancy) Forsythe of New Carisle, Ind.; his grandchildren, Michael (Sennur) Walters of Penn. and Kenneth, Keith, Jacob, Elizabeth and Daniel Forsythe, all of Indiana; his step-granddaughters, Erin Felke, Alissa (Dave) Finch and Mary (Jared) Mann, all of Indiana; his great-grandson, Aiden Kaan Walters of Penn.; his step-great-grandchildren, Isabell and Tristan Felke, Logan and Olivia Finch and Kyle and Adison Mann, all of Indiana; his siblings, Edward Forsythe of North Pekin, Ind., Olean Forsythe of Foley, Ala., Odene Forsythe of Foley, Ala., Earl Forsythe of Atlanta, Ga. and Dora (Ron) Hoffmann of Bowling Green, Ky.; a large number of nieces and nephews, and a good friend, Mike Porter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Penrod Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery with a military service at the graveside. Visitation will begin Tuesday Sept. 25 from 4-8 p.m. at Price Funeral Home, Inc. and Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 10-11 a.m. at the Penrod Baptist Church.
