Auburn School in Logan County, will celebrate International Walk to School Day on Sept. 26.

Approximately 400 students from Auburn School will be walking and rolling to school Wednesday along with parents, teachers and community leaders.

The event will begin at 7:15 a.m. with kids, parents and community leaders walking from Auburn Park. Walkers and bicyclists will arrive at the school around 7:30 a.m. Students are encouraged to decorate posters showing the benefits of walking to school. Posters will be judged and prizes given. Each student walking or bicycling to school will receive a certificate and a bottle of water.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
