Elizabeth LaVerne Herndon, 85, of Russellville, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at the Greenwood Nursing Home in Bowling Green.

She was born in Louisville May 15, 1927, a daughter of the late Shelby and Florence Burba Humphress. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Beverly Herndon; her sons, Bill and Shelby Herndon; her sister, Evelyn Humphress, and her brother, Ed Humphress.

Mrs. Herndon was a member of Stevenson Chapel United Methodist Church and worked for Sealtest Bottling Company in Louisville and Red Kap in Russellville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Young Funeral Home Russellville Chapel with Brother Calvin Chittendon officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Daniel Gaston, Charles Michael Parker, Steve Stuart, Warren David Wright, Barry Wright, Tommy Gilliam, Joe Bailey Wright and Raymond Wright.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Gilliam and husband Dan of Bowling Green; her brothers, Douglas Humphress and wife Ginger of Baker, Ore. and Michael Humphress and wife Debbie of Louisville; her sister, Mona Wagoner and husband Larry of Lawrenceburg; her sister-in-law, Sarah Humphress, wife of the late Ed Humphress of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, Tommy Gilliam and wife Rachelle, Michael Gilliam and Brian Herndon, and three great-grandchildren, Kimberly Gilliam, Zachary Gilliam and Shelby Herndon.
