The Logan County High School girls’ soccer team faced the Todd County Lady Rebels on Tuesday night in a very close game.

The Lady Cougars lost 3-2, with the Lady Rebels scoring their last point in penalty kicks.

The Lady Cougars started the game right with a goal by senior Claire Hopkins early in the first half. The defense fought hard, but couldn’t stop the Lady Rebels from ending the first half with a tie of 1-1.

The Lady Cougars came back ready to score the winning point and defend the ball against the Lady Rebels. Britteny Barton scored the second goal for the Lady Cougars which would put them in the lead at the end of the second half.

But the Lady Cougars would be surprised by the Lady Rebels after they immediately scored at the 78-minute mark.

The game was tied 2-2 and when neither of the teams scored in over-time, they prepared for the penalty kicks.

The first kick for the Lady Cougars was blocked by the Lady Rebels goalkeeper which allowed the Lady Rebels to take the win in penalty kicks 5-4.

“The girls played their hearts out tonight. This was an important game because if we would’ve won it would have automatically put us in the regionals,” said head coach Daniel McCarley. “We are going to work on possession of the ball for next weeks game against Franklin. I’m just really proud of them.”

The Lady Cougars return to the field next Tuesday at home against Franklin-Simpson.
