The Logan County High School basketball teams both saw their seasons come to a close on Monday in the District 13 Tournament at Franklin-Simpson.

Both the Cougars and Lady Cougars fell to host Franklin-Simpson.

The Logan County boys lost 73-52 to a shorthanded Wildcat team that was without two of its starters.

Franklin-Simpson led 22-7 after the first quarter, but Logan battled back in the second, to cut the Wildcat’s lead to just 10 at halftime.

But Franklin outscored Logan 21-12 in the third quarter to all but seal the victory.

Logan County was led in scoring by junior Brett Sowell’s 14 points. Chris Covington had 13 and Twin Lancaster scored eight.

Logan County ends the season with a 4-21 record, but that is double the wins the Cougars had last season.

Franklin-Simpson (21-8) plays Russellville tonight at 7 p.m. for the district championship.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Cougars had a tough time scoring points in the first half against Franklin-Simpson.

Logan County trailed 32-3 at halftime and was down 42-5 at one point in the third quarter.

The Lady Cougars did score 25 points over the final period and a half, however, to make the score a much more respectable 58-30.

Logan County was led in scoring by freshman Jaylin Jones, who had six points.

The Lady Cougars end the year with a 12-11 record, their first winning season in five years.
