The Russellville Police Department is hoping to get the word out about a possible scam involving the department.

The RPD recently received a complaint from a Logan County resident who said a male caller made telephone contact with the resident and told them about an alarm installation offer. The caller said that he was working with ADT and the Russellville Police Department because of recent burglaries in the area. He wanted to set up time for a home visit where he could come by and give an estimate.

The Russellville Police Department is not sponsoring any kind of promotional offer.

The department wants to remind citizens to be wary of this type of ploy to gain entry into a home where the individuals will be under the claim of business such as measuring the house for wiring, etc., but will burglarize the resident using some method of distraction.

Legitimate business representatives will have a picture ID and usually a company ID and references will be immediately available upon request.

Any suspicious activity should be immediately reported to your local law enforcement agency.
