Auburn School celebrates 8th grade graduation

On Thursday night, May 24th, at 6 p.m., Auburn School held its 2012 8th grade graduation ceremony in the school gymnasium. The gymnasium was filled with many parents, family members, and friends that joined to honor the graduating class. The seventy-seven graduates entered the gym while Ms. Rhonda Powell, school guidance counselor, played the processional. Mrs. Katina Kemplin, assistant principal, gave the introductions for the evening’s program. Bryson Peters, graduating 8th grader, delivered the words of encouragement. Ms. Krystal Martin, Mrs. Jenni Fansler, and Mrs. Angela McColpin, 8th grade class sponsors, presented the 8th grade awards.

After the award presentations, soloists, Makenzie Belcher, Bethany Bush, Kelsey Haley, Kayla Hunt, Aurora Ochoa, and Bryson Peters led their 8th grade class in singing their class song, “Wherever I Go” by Miley Cyrus. Mrs. Valerie Jones, 8th grade class sponsor; Mr. David Ward, principal; and Mr. Tim Hall, Auburn School Board Member, then presented the diplomas. The graduates exited the gym while Ms. Rhonda Powell played the recessional. Other 8th grade sponsors for the 2011-2012 school year are Mrs. Becky Engler and Mrs. Bonnie Spears. Music directors were Mrs. Martha Bayles and Mrs. Mandy Beasley.

The following students received special awards and recognitions: Courtney Mayes, Breanna Maxwell, Gavin Scruggs, Bobby Snoddy, Peyton Taylor, and Quintin Wright were honored for having perfect attendance for the school year. Mr. Ward presented this year’s Murrell Rogers Attendance Rotary Award on the behalf of the Rotary Club to Quintin Wright. This award is based on high attendance and excellent grades. Sixty-four 8th graders earned the President’s Education Award. The President’s Education Awards Program is an effort by the U.S. Dept. of Education to recognize outstanding educational achievement and effort. This recognition is given to all students with a grade point average of 90% or higher. Students receiving this award include: Austin Bagby, Clint Baker, Makenzie Belcher, Shelby Blythe, Bethany Bush, Dylan Cardwell, Caleb Cassady, Connor Clark, Raegan Cole, Nick Coleman, Luke Cook, Cassie Cooper, Kenny Cornist, Ericka Dearing, Kirk DeBerry, Jordan Dunn, Kris Ellis, Kaitlynne Fisher, Sydney Fisher, Tiffany Gibson, Courtney Goad, Leah Gregory, Miranda Haley, Joanna Hall, Maeson Hayes, Rachel Hines, Tyra Hubbard, Ryan Hudson, Ellie Hughes, Kayla Hunt, Taylor Hunt, Sydney Hurt, Sierra Jackson, Dylan Knuckles, Andrew Lemons, Ashley Looper, Brette Markham, Breanna Maxwell, Easton May, Courtney Mayes, Connor McColpin, Courtney McGinnis, Sierra Morrow, Blake Nealy, Griffin Newell, Aurora Ochoa, Taylor Owens, Bryson Peters, Kayla Pfistner, Kendra Proctor, Kimberly Proctor, Michael Riley, Cheyanna Roberts, Gavin Scruggs, Timothy Siens, Jenna Simmons, Bobby Snoddy, Austin Stamps, Peyton Taylor, Kaleb Thomason, Auburn Todd, Quintin Wright, Aaron Yates, and Austin Yewell.

The Principal’s Award, which is chosen by Mr. Ward and is given to a student who is outstanding both academically and socially, was awarded to Sierra Morrow. Students who have been outstanding in a specific subject area were then given awards for those subject areas. Those receiving awards include: Caleb Cassady – Algebra Award, Connor Clark - Art Award, Ellie Hughes – Band Award, Clint Baker – P.E. Award, Kimberly Proctor - Language Arts Award, Luke Cook – Math Award, Austin Yewell – Science Award, and Connor McColpin – Social Studies Award. The final awards for the evening were the presentation of the salutatorian and valedictorian. The 2012 class salutatorian is Easton May, and the 2012 class valedictorian is Ellie Hughes.
